The Great Museums of the World.
The most authoritative scholars, the spectacular iconography.

The volume exposes the large heritage of Venice taking the reader to various prestigious places ranging from the Gallerie dell’Accademia up to the Palazzo Ducale, from Ca’ Rezzonico up to the Museo Correr, from the Ca’ d’Oro up to the Scuola di San Rocco, not to mention those incomparable coffers of masterpieces that are the Venetian churches, actual pinacotecas of fundamental importance. Moreover, thanks to the triumph of its absolute masterpieces by Bellini, Tiziano, Tintoretto, and Veronese, the pictorial decoration of Palazzo Ducale is an actual anthology of the Venetian Renaissance painting. But the real surprise is the presence, unique in Italy, of all the greatest modern masters
such as Picasso, Braque, Léger, Kandinskij, Mondrian, Klimt, Klee, Chagall, Max Ernst, Magritte, and Bacon, and of the greatest artists of the Italian artistic movements of Futurism and Metaphysical Painting. Through eight centuries of painting, this extraordinary volume retraces history, customs, and culture not only of Venice but of the whole of Europe.
